Socrates First Accusers And Athenian Law Of All Confrontations In Poli

Socrate's First Accusers and Athenian Law Of all confrontations in political philosophy, the biggest is the conflict between philosophy and politics. The problem remains making philosophy friendly to politics. The questioning of authoritative opinions is not easily accomplished nor is that realm of philosophy - the pursuit of wisdom. Socrates was the instigator of the conflict. While the political element takes place within opinions about political life, Socrates asks the question "What is the best regime and how should I live?" Ancient thought is riddled with unknowns and can make no such statement as "how should I live." The Socratic philosophy offers an alternative and prepares the way for the alternative of absolutes. This alternative is not without its faults. Socratic philosophy is plagued by a destructive element. It reduces the authoritative opinions about political life but replaces it with nothing. This is the vital stem from which the "Apology of Socrates" is written. Because of the stinging attack on Athenian life, and the opinions which they revere so highly, Socrates is placed on trial for his life. The question now becomes why and in what manner did Socrates refute the gods and is he quilty? Socrates, himself, speaks out the accusers charges by saying "Socrates does injustice and is meddlesome, by investigating the things under the earth and the heavenly things, and by making the weaker the stronger and by teaching others these things" (Plato, 19b;c). This is the charge of the "old" accusers. It is seen from an example in "The Clouds". Strepsiades goes to Socrates in order to learn how to pursuade his son by "making the weaker speech the stronger" (Aristophanes, 112). Why does Socrates remind the assembly about the old accusers? It appears improper for a man on trial to bring about his other 'crimes'. Aristophanes, in particular, is implicated by Socrates as an old accuser. "For you yourselves used to see these things i n the comedy of Aristophanes" (Plato, 19c). The poets helped to shape Greek culture. Poetry was passed on and perpetuated the city where thought constantly changed. Philosphy begins in debunking what the city thinks they know in order to refute the god. It is evident that Socrates is not guided by the gods of the city. Socrates says "it is not part of the same man to believe in daimonian and divine things" (Plato, 27e). Socrates is subtly admitting his guilt. Perhaps Socrates believs in gods, but if so, they are not the gods of the city. Socrates simply denies that he has had any part in celestial or subterranean inquiry - he simply speaks "elsewhere". Socrates goes on to say that those who do are reported to be atheists. However, Socrates says that "Zeus does not eveeen exist" (Aristophanes, 367). Socrates replaces Zeus with nature, the permanent and necessary things accessable to reason. This is an outrage to any Athenian. To deny the gods is to deny faith and ultim ately the authoritarian opinions on which their politics is based. Why does Socrates think that he is being unjustly punished? Chaerophon had told Socrates that the Pythian Oracle had said that Socrates was the wisest man. Socrates admits that "I am conscious that I am not wise, either much or little" (Plato, 20b). Socrates wonders what the riddle is and sets out to "refute the divination" (Plato, 20c). This is a prime example of Socrates' impiousness as is his statement in "The Clouds" where he states "we don't credit Gods" (Aristophanes, 248). He is attempting to refute the god at Delphi. Socrates tries to aid his own defense by charging that what he does is in devotion to the god. "Even now I still go around seeking and investigating in accordance with the god" (Plato, 23b). Socrates makes this brash statement yet it is unfounded and untrue because it is not a devine order for Socrates to pursue this line of investigation. In opposition, Socrates asserts that the da imonian did not oppose him. Socrates' impiety is not the only thing that resulted in histrial. Socrates was "the gadfly" stinging the city of Athens. When Socrates proposes that the god sent him on his quest, he set out to prove it wrong. In

Learning to Learn Skills as a Foundation

Learning to Learn Skills as a Foundation Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other developmental disabilities often lack skills that are pre-requisites for success in school. Before a child can acquire language, hold a scissors or pencil, or learn from instruction, he or she needs to be able to sit still, pay attention and imitate the behaviors or remember the content of instruction. These skills are commonly known, among practitioners of Applied Behavior Analysis, as Learning to Learn Skills: In order to succeed with children with Autism, it is important that you evaluate whether they have those learning to learn skills. The Skill Set Waiting: Can the student stay in place while you arrange materials, or begin a session?Sitting: Can the student stay seated, on both buttocks, in a chair?Attending to others and materials: Can you get the student to pay attention to you (the instructor) or when presented with materials?Changing responses based on prompts: Will the student change what he/she is doing if directed to do so, with physical, gestural or verbal prompts.Following instructions: When given instructions, will the child comply? This implies that the child has receptive language.Following choral, or group instructions: Does the child follow directions when given to a whole group? Or does the child only respond to directions given with their name? The Continuum The learning to learn skills above are really arranged in a continuum. A child may learn to wait, but may not be able to sit appropriately, at a table. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders often have co-morbid problems, such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD ) and may have never sat for more than a few seconds in one spot. By finding reinforcement that a child really wants, you can often shape these primary behavioral skills. Once you have completed a reinforcement assessment (evaluating and discovering reinforcement that your child will work for,) you can begin to assess where a child is on the continuum. Will he sit and wait for a preferred food item? You can move from the preferred food item to a favorite or preferred toy. If the child has sitting and waiting skills, you can expand it to find if the child will attend to materials or instruction. Once that is evaluated, you can move on. Most often, if a child has attending skills, he may also have receptive language. If not, that will be the first step of teaching the ability to respond to prompts. Prompting. Prompting also falls on a continuum, from hand over hand to gestural prompts, with the focus on fading prompts to reach independence. When paired with language, it will also build receptive language. Receptive language is critical for the next step. Following directions If a child will respond correctly to prompts, when paired with words, you can teach following directions. If a child already responds to verbal directions, the next thing to assess is: Does a child follow choral or group instructions? When a child can do this, he or she is ready to spend time in the general education classroom. This should hopefully be an outcome for all our children, even if only in a limited way. Teaching the Learning to Learn Skills The learning to learn skills can be taught either in one to one sessions with an ABA therapist (should be supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, or BCBA) or in an early intervention classroom by the teacher or a classroom aide with training. Often, in early intervention classrooms, you will have children who come in with a range of abilities in the learning to learn skills and you will need to focus the attention of a single aide on children who most need to build the basic sitting and waiting skills. The instructional model for ABA, like the model for behavior, follows an ABC sequence: A: Instruction. This needs to fit the outcome. If the first instruction is to sit, you may have to physically guide the child into the chair, accompanied by a verbal description of what is happening: Sit down, please. Okay, were sitting with our feet on the floor, our bum on the chair.B: Behavior. What the behavior is will determine the next step.C: Feedback. This is either correcting the response or praise, either paired with reinforcement, a token (secondary reinforcement) or once you have some behavioral momentum, every second to fourth correct response, or correction. The most important thing is to be clear about what is the desired response - you never want to reinforce an incorrect response (although an approximation is appropriate when shaping behavior. Called Discrete Trial Teaching, each instructional trial is very brief. The trick is to mass the trials, in other words, bring the instruction on hard and heavy, increasing the amount of time that the child/client is engaged in the targeted behavior, whether it is sitting, sorting, or writing a novel. (Okay, thats a bit of an exaggeration.) At the same time the teacher/therapist will be spreading out the reinforcement, so that each successful trial will get feedback, but not necessarily access to reinforcement. The Goal The final outcome should be that students with Autism Spectrum Disorders will be able to succeed in more naturalistic settings, if not actually in a general education classroom. Pairing secondary or social reinforcers with those primary reinforcers (preferred items, food, etc.) will help children with more challenging disabilities function appropriately in the community, interact with people appropriately and learn to communicate, if not to use language and interact with typical peers.

Avoid Capital Offenses When Using Job Titles

Avoid Capital Offenses When Using Job Titles Avoid Capital Offenses When Using Job Titles Avoid Capital Offenses When Using Job Titles By Mark Nichol When it comes to mechanical aspects of writing, few details seem to trip writers up as much as capitalization: when to use uppercase letters, and when to use lowercase letters. Specific job titles preceding a person’s name are capitalized, but descriptions are not. For example, â€Å"Marketing Director John Doe† is correct, but â€Å"Marketing Chief John Doe† is not, unless â€Å"marketing chief† is John Doe’s actual title. After a name, titles are lowercase regardless of whether they are specific or general: â€Å"John Doe, marketing director at ABC Industries.† If you modify even a specific job title, such as noting that someone no longer holds a position, what appears to be specific becomes an apposition, part of a job description rather than a title: â€Å"former marketing director John Doe.† Some style guides disregard this last rule, and some publications choose to capitalize â€Å"president† when referring to the head of state even when the word appears in isolation from the title holder’s name, but this is an unnecessary nicety. Likewise, ordinary job titles in isolation are never capitalized. For example, the job title in â€Å"The park ranger asked for our permit† is a mere description, and needs no emphasis. Job titles are at times absurdly attenuated, and placing them before a person’s name can wear readers out. Confronted with a magnificent moniker like â€Å"Oracle Principal Product Manager for Windows Technologies John Doe,† relax the identification a bit: â€Å"John Doe, Oracle’s principal product manager for Windows technologies† (the proper name Windows remains capitalized even after the name), is a gentler approach. Capitalization of job titles and general descriptions alike is permitted in direct address when you are writing to someone (or transcribing a speech directed at them) and using the title or description in place of a name: â€Å"That’s an order, Sergeant†; â€Å"I’ll get right on it, Chief.† Capitalize formal and informal family-relationship labels, too, as in â€Å"If only Father were here† and â€Å"I’ll tell Mom!† but not in â€Å"Wait until your father gets home!† or â€Å"I saw your mom yesterday.† Terms of endearment aren’t capitalized, either: â€Å"I’ll get it, dear.† Most terms of respect are capitalized (â€Å"I object, Your Honor†), but â€Å"sir† or â€Å"ma’am†/†miss† are not (unless you are addressing a letter or an email, in which case you should write â€Å"Dear Sir† or the equivalent). The take-away about titles: Capitalization is seldom called for. Unless you’re using a person’s exact job title, and only the job title, immediately before that person’s name, chances are you shouldn’t capitalize it. Concert report Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Concert report - Essay Example The famous ‘French Favorites for Woodwind Trio’ were to perform. Upon entering the hall, I was fascinated by its appeal. The decorations of the hall consisted of flashing disco lights that spelt classical music. It was all silent though, apart from the director who was showing some clips of the traditional, folk songs in the hall’s giant screen. I wedged my way through the already parked venue, and I was welcomed by familiar faces of my college mates. For a moment, I thought that most of the seemingly young people in attendance were students, but I was proofed wrong by the face of my teacher who was widely smiling in front of me. No sooner had I settled at the a-bit spacious place in the back, the master of ceremony (a lady), took over and welcomed everyone for the concert. The master of the ceremony was notably funny, and she kept the audience laughing over and over as she introduced one performance after the other. The university Chorale opened the floor, with the â€Å"Die Harmonie in der ehe† of Joseph Haydn (1732-1809). The Chorale popularity was evidenced by the appraisal of the audience, followed by the singing along the lyrics, from the many girls (lovers of squeaky sound). At this point, I thought that was the best way to start of the performance. Laura Moore’s command of the choir as she conducted indicated her experience and skills. Thomas Rowel was another public figure in the performance, singing tenor. There were no other instrumentals apart from the piano that Brent Nowell played to grace the performance. After the â€Å"Die harmonie in der Ehe†, the group switched to â€Å"O Vos Omnes†, then the â€Å"Sure on This Shining Night† and deserted with the â€Å"When He Shall Die†. The audience kept singing along and finally applauded the group as it exited the stage. Then, the voice recitals with piano accompaniment were performed. As the name suggests, it

Emergency Communication - Public Information Officer Position - Assignment Example The subordinates should be well informed. There is a need for one to know oneself and seek improvement. Critical thinker: The PIO under his mandate should be able to plan, develop, organize and provide direction for a comprehensive policy on information. He should consult the incident commander in order to educate the rest of the staff and the media about the programs of the department, events, projects, plans and implements (Laft, 2011, p.90). He should evaluate public information and community outreach; should ensure the division meets the applicable laws and regulations; should provide highly responsible, operational assistance and complex administration. He/she fosters good working relationships with the other agencies and serves as the spokesperson of the department. This is because he/she responds to the requests of information from the public. Social and tact: The work may require one being tactful because it entails frequent public contact. He may also have independent judgment. Sometimes it may require one to have a wider knowledge of the department policies that relate to specific areas. Through interaction, he/she should be in a position to research, develop and implement program plans. One should receive inquiries and providing information to the public concerning a wide range of topics (Smoke, 2009, p.65). They include developing and sending out the press releases; this requires discretion and tactfulness in communication with the mass media. Readiness: Arriving properly and well equipped at the incident location and within the acceptable time limits is of utmost importance. He/she should check in according the guidelines set by the agency. The officer should determine the immediate staffing and the resources needed. Improvement of standard living contributes to damage to environment Essay Example for Free

Improvement of standard living contributes to damage to environment Essay In the last decade, many countries over the world have to experience the inevitable consequences of damage to environment. The environment has been sacrificed as the people’s standard living has been improved, which is including the rising of new technology. Sometimes, the new technology that has been invented can cause environment’s devastation enhancement and also harms the ecosystem on it. Many forests and parks have disappeared so that animal extinction for some species cannot be avoided. Nowadays, many developer company compete each other to build residences, apartments, hotels, malls, entertainment centers, such as cafes, cinemas as the enhancement of our standard living. People need a living place more than just a place to sleep and take a rest. The more facilities that one residence area or apartment has, such as swimming pool, golf area, gym, supermarket; the more benefit they can offer to attract customer. It means, one developer company needs bigger areas to construct a residence or apartment. Besides that, we can see the increasing amount of skyscraper buildings in big cities. Along with many constructions, it means that many green areas has to be cut off to be changed into a commercial area and people do not contemplate the consequences of not having enough trees and green areas. In addition to this, many constructions also are not built with a good drainage system. Due to this matter, flood happens everywhere. For instance, in Jakarta, Indonesia, flood happens at least once per year during peak rainy season as the result of constructing park and forest to be a commercial building. Industrial companies also contribute to environment’s devastation. High technology system is developed to support the industrial business. Some of new technology system that has been invented are not eco-friendly. For instance, in Agriculture industry, pesticide is used for controlling the pest that can harm the plant. The consequences of using pesticide that can contaminate the soil, the plants, and harm the ecosystem surrounding it are being ignored and also it can harm the people who consume the fruits or vegetables of those plants. In addition to this, many wastes are produced every year and most of the waste cannot be recycled. Some of the waste fills the river and harm the ecosystem that live in the river, such as fishes. Later on, consuming fish from contaminated river can jeopardize human’s health. In the end, we have to realize that along with standard living improvement, often we neglect our environment and abandon the balancing of ecosystem in our planet. Besides environment devastation, we also harm our lives and our next generation lives. It is suppose that now is the perfect time for us as human being to look after our planet; maintain, protect and nourish our environment surrounding us to build a better health life in the future.

Homers The Odyssey Essay -- Homer Odyssey Epic Poem Essays

Homer's "The Odyssey" The Odyssey is a companion to The Iliad, a story of the Trojan War. Both The Iliad and The Odyssey are epic poems written by Homer. In The Odyssey, Homer relates the misadventures of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, that occur during the decade following the defeat of Troy. In doing so, the fates of his fellow warriors are also made known. The Odyssey begins on Mount Olympus, in the palace of Zeus, king of the gods, where a discussion takes place regarding the woes of humans and their determination to blame it on the gods. Athene, daughter of Zeus, appeals to her father to help Odysseus, who through no fault of his own, has been kept prisoner on the island of Ogygia for seven years by Calypso, daughter of the god Atlas. After receiving sanction to help Odysseus, Athene visits Telemachus, Odysseus' son, to motivate him to begin searching for his father. It is here that we learn of the situation awaiting Odysseus at home in Ithaca. Penelope, Odysseus' wife, is besieged by suitors who wish to marry her. She has no desire to remarry because she still laments for Odysseus and prays that he will return, even though it's been twenty years since he left to fight against Troy. These suitors, rather than courting her from afar, have taken up residence in her palace and are eating her and her son out of house and home. It is under these circumstances that Telemachus, directed by Athene, leaves Ithaca to search for news of his father. Meanwhile, Calypso is sent word that she must release Odysseus and allow him to return home. It is during his trip home that we learn of all that has befallen Odysseus since he left Troy. His journey home is not without incident either. However, with the help of Athene, Odysseus finally arriv... ...his voyage, The Ulysses Voyage, which describes his findings. Even people who have never read The Odyssey have been influenced by Homer because the books they read or the movies they watch are written by people who were influenced by Homer, and the languages they speak have words and expressions that have come down to us from Homer. Xenophanes, quoted in Scott's book, says it the best: "From the beginning, for all have learned from him." (Scott 93) Ifwe read Homer's The Odyssey, we can learn from him too. Works Cited: Finley, M. The Foundations Of National Reconstruction History Essay

On Nationalism, Suns purpose was to unify the Chinese people to contend for a common cause. This was important for any revolution to take topographic point as it had to affect big multitudes. This meant that the people will hold to alter their perceptual experiences to see themselves as fellow citizens instead than people from different racial and societal groups. He emphasized that under the new Chinese Republic, no race will be discriminated, specifically indicating out that the Manchus, even though they were hated for doing China ‘s death, would non be treated below the belt. He besides highlighted the importance of patriotism for China to be powerful state. Sun hoped that a united community would increase national consciousness and a united people will be powerful to guard of enemies such as the European colonialists that were still busying parts of China. On democracy, Sun explained the system of democracy and what political alterations were traveling to take topographic p oint. He challenged the legitimacy of the old monarchies of China in which he stated that the societal groups in which one individual was considered superior over the other is against the rule in which all worlds are equal. He besides explained the demand for a democratic authorities and argues for the formation of a Chinese fundamental law. Finally, Sun explained his positions of Livelihood. In the economic system, Sun explained the state of affairs of the Chinese economic system and highlighted alterations in the economic system, chiefly explicating the demand of province ownership in order to avoid income inequality. Sun besides explained on the demand for three revolutions that will finally take China to a fully fledged democracy. In this part Sun besides drafted his thought of the future cardinal authorities of the Republic of China, which will dwell of five boards to guarantee cheques and balances in the authorities and forestall any functionary from being excessively powerful which may endanger democracy in China. Sun this as a political statement on China ‘s advancement. This papers reiterates the Three Principles of the People in which he mentioned in 1905[ 2 ]. He besides highlighted the incompetency of the old system of authorities in the papers and besides his positions on the importance of a revolution. The address ‘s intended audience was the Chinese people, to inform them on how China was traveling to travel frontward to Reconstruction of its state after the blue period during the stoping old ages of Qing Dynasty. The papers was written in 1923, at the clip when Sun had made merely finished his last expatriate and had eventually became the de facto leader of the Republic of China.[ 3 ]Despite the triumph of the 1911 revolution of China when the Qing Empire was overthrown, the new democracy was a failure. Democracy was non achieved and it was mired by heavy corruptness. Sun became the probationary president of the Republic of China for a short period of four months and so po wer was handed over to Yuan Shikai. Yuan Shikai, being a power-hungry individual was more interested of consolidating his ain power than anything else, seting China into farther confusion.[ 4 ]After Yuan ‘s decease, China came to the epoch of warlordism, which factionalized China.[ 5 ]Hence in 1923, Sun had wanted to repeat China ‘s demand of advancement and growing to travel frontward re-emphasise the exalted ideals of the revolution. The papers he wrote is in a optimistic tone given that the papers written seems to portray that Sun belief that his three rules will convey about success in China ‘s Reconstruction. These rules besides show that Sun wanted the future coevals to retrieve him as a symbol of China ‘s success, which had brought Chinas out of its worst times towards a bright hereafter. Based on his papers, it can be seen that the 1920s was a clip of great adversity and a period of muss in China. At the period of warlordism, China was broken up into many different coteries. Warlords were invariably contending each other for districts. The economic status at that period was awful ; the warlords had wrecked the financial system of China and greatly hampered any patterned advance in the economic system.[ 6 ]Hence, the papers attempted to supply solutions to the assortment of jobs in China However, the article ‘s optimism seems to be slightly ill-conceived given the desperate political, economic and societal world faced by China during this period. It was ever traveling to be hard to accomplish the ends stated in the papers. An illustration was Sun ‘s hopes that different ethnicities in China would see themselves as fellow citizens and handle each other every bit.[ 7 ]This was hard because China had a really long history of factionalism, where people saw themselves as portion of a race or a societal group alternatively of a united people.[ 8 ]It would be a tall order to anticipate every racial and societal group in China to alter. Furthermore, some racial groups differ greatly in civilization and linguistic communication. An illustration of this would be the Han Chinese and the Tibetans who are still non able to screen out their differences today. In fact, when the papers was written, China was still in the Warlord epoch and hence at that place was already a immense challenge of eliminating the different military coteries before any success on patriotism is was possible. This optimism is besides undermined by the deficiency of any concrete programs Sun had to further patriotism in China. Another high spot in the papers was the thought of province ownership, which Sun felt was the manner to travel frontward instead Capitalism. Sun ‘s thought of province ownership instead than traveling towards private ownership at the beginning of the democracy, was the logical measure to take because Capitalism needs to hold a solid foundation before it can be implemented and China did non hold this in 1923. Besides, Capitalism is a Western economic system and therefore following Capitalism was likely to tie in his authorities with the powers which were looting China during this period of clip, and therefore would de-legitimize Sun ‘s government. Sun had made mentioned illustrations of Europe and America significantly in the papers. This was due to Sun ‘s esteem of its advancement and success in political and economic cabals. . This had therefore encouraged him to look to the West to retroflex their theoretical account in accomplishing a successful republican democracy that he wished China would be. Hence, Sun wanted to follow some of these Western systems to China. Even the three basicss that he had mentioned in the papers were similar to that of the Gallic slogan, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity[ 9 ]. Furthermore as Sun had studied in the West, he was really influenced by Western instructions and saw the success of the West because of its strong sense of Nationalism, effectual democracy and well-run economic system. Hence, these factors convinced him that some theoretical accounts from the West needed to be For Sun, being imperfect was the extreme importance and he felt that advancement could merely be achieved throu gh autonomy and democracy[ 10 ]and hence this influenced his policies stated in the papers that focused on these countries. Sun had desperately wanted advancement because it was a instead pressing issue in China. One of the factors was likely due to the advancement of another East Asiatic state, Japan who was already economically and politically advanced as compared to China in 1923.If China does non come on it might stay taken for granted by westerners and Japan who were already busying parts of China, merely an betterment in China ‘s state of affairs could let it to be stronger against these forces. Furthermore, China was used to be a proud and powerful state and alternatively of being occupied and shamed, it used to hold tributary provinces whose states used to be subservience to its emperor[ 11 ]. Hence, China was a proud state and Sun ‘s purpose was to reconstruct this pride of the Chinese people. Its retardation was mortifying in China. Sun therefore see the import ance of advancement to recover its strength in international dealingss This papers therefore of import as it was used as a footing of administration in the old ages to come when China was under the Kuomintang. However, in Mainland China today, it influence is limited because it was taken over by the Chinese Communist Party during the civil war, the Chinese authorities still upholds this papers as the rule of its state ‘s fundamental law.[ 12 ]

A Double Standard in “A Doll’s House” Essay

In today’s society, all are taught the social structure that is meant to be followed and not changed; yet, are also taught to stand up for something if enough belief is put into it- a double standard by most accounts. Such standards exist in the play A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen. Set in the time where women’s equality was a joke and with an ending too shocking for the German public, this play brought into light the â€Å"two kinds of spiritual law one in man one in women† (Rosefeldt) this view outlines the distinct standards held for each gender that can be seen throughout different works of literature and even in today’s society. Rosefeldt emphasizes Ibsen’s view that this world is â€Å"exclusively a male society†¦with prosecutors and judges who judge women’s behavior from the male standpoint.† (Rosefeldt) From this, it can be agreed that such a standard exists. Looking back on literature, many unique examples can be found. In the epic, The Odyssey, Odysseus’s wife, Penelope, is remains faithful to her husband, of which has been gone for twenty years. Just in the act of being faithful lends to the fact that she was automatically expected to by her peers. No matter how much suffering, she was still to go with the social norm and wait. In stark contrast, Odysseus was presented with many chances of infidelity (the Sirens & Calypso) as the gods pressed obstacles in the way of his journey home. Despite the gods’ attempts, Odysseus’s own morals prevented the expected to occur. From this view, the story directly contradicts itself in regards to gender standards. Between the non-chalant attitude towards Odysseus if he were to cheat and the â€Å"Penelope must always stay faithful under and circumstance† perspective, it is implied that women are not at the same liberties as men when put in the same situation. In the play itself, the double standards set between Nora and her overly-dominant husband, Torvald, can be clearly seen. Many times throughout the play, Nora is referred to as a bird or squirrel as Torvald is always called by his name, implying that their relationship is â€Å"an overly-close bond† (Rosefeldt) – with Torvald in charge. As Nora struggles with her secret transaction throughout the play, she deeply ponders leaving Torvald and her family or even killing herself. Her deep consideration bluntly differs Torvald’s instantaneous decision to get rid of her as soon as he found out about her under-the-table loan. Greatly improved from the times this play was written, women aren’t property and most have their own jobs and careers. Even with their jobs though, women are still expected to be the homemaker. Throughout history, women have always been seen as the child-bearing counterparts to their bread-winning husbands-just look at any classic American sitcom. Although, much in those ways have changed in the past few decades, modern sports still hold the standard to a degree. Cheerleading, previously thought to be an exclusively girl sport, is increasingly growing popularity as a unisex sport. On the contrary, seldom is a girl seen playing football; rather rare to see a girl playing on a team other than in a pee-wee league or a backyard family game. In the end, whether agreed or not, there is, in fact, a double standard between men and women- though some subtle, these age-old and well-known lines aren’t and probably won’t be getting crossed anytime soon. Either way you look at it, one simple question sums it perfectly; would there be a story if it were Torvald who had borrowed the money?

Correlation between Resistivity and dopant concentration essays

Correlation between Resistivity and dopant concentration essays From observation alone, we can notice that the higher the concentration, the lower the resistivity. This is consistent with the Drude model, which states that the higher the concentration of conducting charges is, the higher conductivity would result. In this case, where the dopant is boron which has only three electrons in its outmost shell, the conducting would be predominantly holes, while electron conduction could only account for small part of conductivity. So theoretically, we can just consider the contribution of holes. However, we would expect some deviation due to this approximation. Among all the samples, the ones with lower dopant concentration would be expected to have more contribution from electrons, which means the resistivity would be lower than the theoretical result. Moreover, according to formula for calculation of resistivity , the tips of probes would have large resistivity, which in return depends on the extend to which the probe contact with the wafer. For different wafer, errors exist. In this sense, we would not expect the logarithm graph of the experiment to be perfect linear. Impurities and the scratches on the surface may also contribute to the errors. As we stated before, the higher the concentration, the lower the resistivity. For high concentration samples, the resistivity would be small so that the small change in current does not result in much change in voltage determined, according to the formula V=IR. We would expect the voltage readings to be quite stable. In contrast, for lower concentration samples, resistivity would be larger, and the voltage would be easily affected. So we would expect it fluctuate from time to time, as we observed in the experiment. Furthermore, because the lab has a lot of electronic appliances, such as handphones and computers, which would exert an electromagnetic field to their ambience (in fact the apparatus is just beside a computer), the Hall effect would occur ...
